The few reviews which have appeared in the scientific journals are so full of misconceptions and lack of comprehension that my only possible answer to my critics would be a request that they should read this book over again -- or perhaps merely that they should read it! Far from it, but because I know a lot of people who will think this kind of situation is awesome, and I want to be able to talk to them about it. By listening to the story, rather than relying on visual clues as in picture books, children have the opportunity to hone auditory processing skills. A closer examination will reveal that one of the toys is missing an arm. I treasure our reading time and I try to fill that time with quality books that my girls love.

Your children will know when they are ready for bigger challenges (as in two pages or a whole small book per turn). I know they are not “really” chapter books… but my kids have loved Robert Munsch books since they were 2yo; they are 9 yo now and recall events and vacation based on which book we had with us at the time. The authors of such miscellanies were forward-thinking in their sense that some texts are consulted more than they are read; they envisioned a focussed, interested, but not immersed reader, dipping into their books by locating relevant passages.
